IDPA is an international “self-defense” style shooting sport using practical equipment in realistic scenarios. The use of cover, shooting while moving, sitting, kneeling and prone are just some of the twists we incorporate into a match, but the priority is always safety for you and the other competitors. Scenarios can involve one-handed shooting, strong and support hands, shooting from retention, targets that twist, swing and disappear are all possibilities in our matches. You just never know what the match directors will dream up to work on your self-defense style shooting skills.
Our equipment requirements are simple: a practical handgun (9mm-.45, semi-auto or revolver), a holster, ammunition loaders (magazines or speedloaders), a belt to hold them, ammunition, eye and ear protection, and of course a concealment garment that covers the holster. It is a good idea to have a hat but not a requirement. Don’t wait until you have everything, come on out and have some fun on either a practice or match day and we will gladly show you what to do and have you participating that day, give it a try, our safety officers will walk you through the stages and coach you throughout the match.
Our sport is open to everyone 12 years of age and older, and other than the equipment, basic firearm safety is all that is required to participate. You only compete in your own division based on skill and type of firearm, no need to be a sharpshooter, so get your gear and come on out and practice with others who enjoy the fun and camaraderie in the sport of IDPA.
